Here are some of my favourite tips on how to get awesome wedding photos and the most from your wedding photographer:
Don’t feel like you have to look at the camera and smile!
While your getting your makeup done, lacing up your dress or putting on your suit just pretend I’m not there. This may sound like a challenge but I’ll try and tap into my inner ninja as best I can! Hopefully you come to forget that I’m pointing a camera at you for most of the day 😉 The best photos come out of natural expressions and spontaneous moments. So just enjoy the day and I’ll do the rest.
This cute moment is completely un-staged.
Love this moment when the bride’s mother sees her all done up on the morning of her wedding.
Having a good laugh with her girls!
During events such as the first dance don’t feel like you have to look at me, pose and smile so that I will get a great shot. My favourite photos from this part of the night are always the ones where couples are laughing, looking into each others eyes and holding each other close.
Mary & Jason’s first dance was so intimate.
Love the way Kate & Angus are looking at each other!
Another lovely shot!
Enjoy the day… It will go by fast!
This is such a cliche, but so true. Really try and be present in the day. When you are relaxed and enjoying yourself we’ll be able to capture the true essence of the wedding story and your love story as you celebrate!
Jen & Doug expressed themselves with a little healthy competition!
take a minute to chill!
Make a timeline
If you want some awesome wedding portraits as a couple and with your family and wedding party it’s a good idea to make sure you slot in enough time during the day. It’s great to be able to go to a few fun locations so be sure to think about travel time too.
You’ll want to have time for shots with your fur-babies too!!
The best moments happen in between the posed shots!
Consider a first look
Some couples opt to do a first look (when the couple decides to see each other before the ceremony in their wedding clothes). Nothing beats the excitement and bliss of that moment when a couple sees each other for the first time on their wedding day! Having that captured by your photographer with just the two of you is a very moving experience. This allows you to do photos before the ceremony so that you can then move straight into the reception with no break in between.

Add personal touches to your wedding!
Your favourite shoes, a bouquet of flowers from your own garden or a special keepsake pinned into your bouquet are all ways to make your day personal and add character to your images.
Be yourself and enjoy your new spouse!
I love when couples have fun with each other during the photo session. Don’t be afraid to steal a kiss, tease each other or hold each other even if I haven’t instructed you to do so. I’ll help you with posing so don’t worry if you don’t feel like you are ‘picture people’ but spontaneity is always welcome 🙂
Be yourself: the best photos will be candid shots, emotional and funny things that happened!
